The atmosphere at the Poinciana Rehabilitation Center shifted from routine to celebration on Wednesday, January 29th, as residents gathered around a workshop filled with brand-new tools — each one representing possibility, purpose, and a fresh start.

That moment was made possible by Mr. Karoly Szucs, owner of Artisan Metal Works, who visited the East End facility on January 29 to donate a full set of professional woodworking tools, along with two new sewing machines, to support Poinciana’s vocational training programs.

For the residents watching the delivery unfold, the donation was about far more than equipment. It was about being seen, believed in, and given the chance to build something meaningful.

“If you can do something to help someone, you should,” said Mr. Szucs.

“These tools can help people learn skills and feel proud of what they create,” he added.

Accompanied by his employee, Mr. Cameron Bridgeman, Mr. Szucs unloaded a wide assortment of tools, including sanders, drills, wrenches, and metal peg shelving, all carefully selected to fully equip the center’s woodworking workshop.

Residents at the Poinciana facility crowded in, smiling, asking questions, and imagining what they might create with their own hands.

Addressing the group, Mr. Szucs shared plans to return and help set up the workshop and committed ongoing support from his team. He also pledged to send staff members to teach practical skills as part of the program.

The donated tools will be used in Poinciana’s woodworking and vocational training initiatives, which focus on developing patience, discipline, and real-world skills that can support residents as they prepare for life beyond rehabilitation.

For Dr. Lockhart, the donation marks an important milestone: the first corporate contribution dedicated to Poinciana’s vocational programs.

“When residents work with real tools, they gain real confidence,” Dr. Lockhart said. “This gift shows our residents that the community believes in their ability to grow, contribute, and rebuild their lives. Vocational programs like woodworking aren’t just about learning a trade — they’re about dignity and hope.”

Many residents expressed excitement at the opportunity to build and repair items themselves, with several sharing their love for fixing and making things — skills they are eager to put to use.

Poinciana Rehabilitation Center hopes this act of generosity will inspire others in the community to share their skills, time, or resources in support of rehabilitation through opportunity.

“We are deeply grateful,” commented Director Marcia Mullings-Thompson.“This kindness will stay with our residents long after the tools are put to work.”
