Five persons in the Cayman Islands have been recognised in the 2026 Birthday Honours List of His Majesty King Charles III.
The awardees who were named this past Saturday June 13th, the date of the King’s Birthday Celebrations, were recognised “for outstanding services to the Cayman Islands”. They are: outgoing Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, Tara Nielson, Founder and Director of Random Acts of Kindness (ARK), Glenda McTaggart, Senior Manager, Education Programmes - DART, Peter Lansdown, Chief Superintendent, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service(RCIPS), and Melanie Carmichael, Executive Committee Member, Sustainable Cayman.
WELL-DESERVED RECOGNITIONS
Honourable Franz Manderson MBE, Cert. Hon. The Deputy Governor of the Cayman Islands, was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), ‘For services to the Cayman Islands Civil Service and the wider community in the Cayman Islands’.
Tara Nielsen, Cert. Hon. Founder and Director of Acts of Random Kindness (ARK), is made a Member of The Most Excellent Order of The British Empire (MBE), ‘For services to charity and community development in the Cayman Islands’.
Glenda McTaggart, Senior Manager, Education Programmes at DART, was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM), ‘For services to education in the Cayman Islands’.
Peter Lansdown, Chief Superintendent, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, was awarded a King’s Police Medal (KPM), ‘For services to policing in the Cayman Islands, and in support of other British Overseas Territories’.
Melanie Carmichael, Executive Committee Member, Sustainable Cayman, was awarded a Certificate and Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.), ‘For services to sustainability and conservation in the Cayman Islands’.
Her Excellency, Governor Jane Owen, said: “I am delighted to announce that five members of our community have been awarded honours by His Majesty the King in the Birthday Honours list for outstanding services to the Cayman Island. I send my warmest congratulations to them all.”
In announcing the awards, the Governor’s Office explained that “honours are an opportunity to recognise people who have given exceptional and selfless service over a sustained period of time and are given to people from all walks of life and all sections of society.”
