Its not too late to register for the Chamber Earth Day, on 26 April from 7am to 10am and join more than two thousand volunteers – Cayman’s biggest volunteer cleanup! This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” underscores the incredible impact we can achieve together to protect and preserve our beautiful islands.Volunteers will remove trash from beaches, roadsides, public parks, and gardens, ensuring that our islands remain stunning for residents and visitors alike.

Why It Matters

“Keeping our islands clean and green is everyone’s responsibility,” says Chamber CEO Wil Pineau. “We encourage all residents, schools, and volunteer community groups to participate in this initiative, dedicating just a few hours to make a real difference in their communities.”

Sponsor Highlights

The Chamber of Commerce is proud to have the support of sponsors who share our commitment to environmental preservation. The Chamber would like to express heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors who have stepped up to provide trash bags, gloves, Tee-shirts and refreshments, but especially our major sponsors: the Ministry of Tourism & Ports, and the Ministry of Health:

Joanne Lawson, Chief of Staff at Dart said “We are proud to sponsor the Chamber of Commerce’s Earth Day cleanup because we believe in the importance of preserving our environment for future generations. This initiative helps beautify our community and raises awareness about the impact of pollution and the need for sustainable practices. We continue to support this cause each year because of positive changes it brings and the sense of unity it fosters among residents. Together, we can make a difference and create a cleaner, greener world.”

Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Ports, said: “Earth Day serves as a timely reminder that the health of our planet is intrinsically linked to the well-being of our people. This Earth Day, we reflect on the theme: ‘Our Planet, Our Power,’ and as an Island nation, that message couldn’t be more relevant. Our natural environment is not just beautiful; it is the lifeblood of our tourism industry, which supports thousands of jobs, businesses, and families here in the Cayman Islands. As custodians of our environment, we must be mindful that protecting our ecosystems is not only an environmental imperative, but an economic and social one as well. By acknowledging Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and the long-term resilience of our Islands.”

Ministry of Health: “Earth Day serves as a global reminder that protecting our environment is not bound by age, culture, or politics. From students picking up litter to elders planting trees, and from volunteers cleaning coastlines to policymakers shaping legislation, it is a day that unites us all in a common purpose of caring for our planet and, by extension, ourselves,” said Ministry spokespersons Carolina Muniz Ferreira and Mma-tshepo.

The Ministry’s commitment extends beyond Earth Day through year-round sustainability initiatives and effective waste management practices. “Our efforts do not stop with a single day of action. Through our internal Green Team, Ministry staff are encouraged to learn about and participate in sustainability initiatives year-round. We also support effective waste management by providing clearly marked recycling bins for plastic, aluminium, and glass in our offices.”

Dr. Gelia Frederick van-Genderen, Water Authority-Cayman Director said: “The Water Authority has participated in the Chamber’s Earth Day clean-up since 2007 and has been a sponsor since 2009. This event allows us to give back to our community, and it‘s an event that our staff look forward to every year. We all have a role to play to protect our environment, and this initiative is one way to do that.”
