Cayman Cycling’s four May Classics events were immensely successful again with riders of all ages, from infants to seniors competing in various categories throughout the month.

The West Bay Circuit on May 10 was a total distance of 24.8miles over eight technical laps. The South Sound Time Trial a week later was held over 9.6 miles. The East End Road Race on May 18 was 37.4 miles over two laps or 56.1 miles over three laps depending on category.

Finally, on May 24, the CostULess Circuit was over 45 minutes plus 3 laps. That was followed by the Kiddie Dash and the debut of Cayman Cycling’s new Next Gen Hot Lap: 11+ doing one lap of 1.2 miles. The sponsors were The Catalyst Group, AA Rubis, Ogier and Vitamin Shoppe Cayman.

The key results included Junior Ryan Thompson winning both the East End Road Race and the South Sound Time Trial overall. He also broke the long-standing SS TT course record held by Steve Abbott.

Junior Patryk Plata came third in West Bay, fifth in the time trial, third in East End, and 11th in CostULess all overall. These youngsters are the future and are already a strong challenge to the adults.

Emily Clarke broke the women’s time trial course record and was the first female to break the 25-minute barrier. The series champion was Jerome Ameline who has, of course, won it multiple times.

The Kiddie Dash and Next Gen Hot Lap proved to be a huge success with over 80 children registered. The future of Cayman cycling is bright. They are launching a youth program that will include more races, bike-handling and skills sessions, assistance with equipment, etc.
