TechCayman Brings Transformative Technology Resources to Cayman Brac Through Major Equipment Donation
July 2025 – As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing STEM education across the Cayman Islands, TechCayman has provided vital technological resources to Cayman Brac, including advanced VEX Robotics kits and year-round support for the Layman Scott Robotics Club.
This investment reflects TechCayman’s recognition that innovative education shouldn’t be limited by geography, bringing world-class learning opportunities directly to Cayman Brac students. The donation represents an upgrade to the technological resources TechCayman has provided to the island over the years.
The impact of this dedicated support was showcased during TechCayman Education’s annual Robotics Camp, held from June 30th to July 2nd at Layman Scott High School. The fully sponsored three-day programme welcomed students aged 11–15, offering an immersive introduction to robotics, programming, and collaborative problem-solving.
Philip Liu, TechCayman’s Education Manager, emphasized the significance of bringing comprehensive technological resources directly to Cayman Brac’s educational community.
Participants progressed from basic robot assembly to advanced programming challenges, working in small teams to develop functional robots while sharpening their critical thinking and technical skills. The camp’s structure combined hands-on learning with guided instruction, enabling students to tackle real-world problems and refine their solutions through iterative testing.
This year’s program was built around “creative freedom, collaboration, improvisation, and problem solving” – principles at the heart of how technologists learn, work, and grow. A key focus was helping students reframe their mindset around mistakes, treating them as stepping stones rather than setbacks. “Mistakes are awesome,” Liu said. “They are, hands down, the best way to learn something.”
The camp culminated in a final showcase where teams presented their projects and demonstrated the robots they had built and programmed, capping off three days of engaged learning and skill-building that demonstrated the tangible impact of sustained investment in The Brac’s educational resources.
TechCayman’s ongoing commitment to Cayman Brac extends beyond the annual camp through continuous support for the Layman Scott Robotics Club. The organisation’s strategic donation of VEX Robotics kits builds on previous contributions, ensuring students have year-round access to high-quality STEM learning and hands-on exploration.
This initiative reflects TechCayman’s broader mission to serve as an engine of growth for the entire Cayman Islands by fostering an ecosystem of technology and talent development across all three islands, where future generations can build lasting success.
