The 2025 Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon was another marvellous spectacle of athletic excellence and epic community spirit over the weekend.

Held on Sunday, 7 December, the 26.2-mile run started at 4:30am on Seafarers Way and finished back at Bayshore Mall. Organised by Kelly Holding Ltd, early indications were that it was the best ever for mass participation.

The top male and female full marathon winners received Breitling timepieces courtesy of Kirk Freeport as part of their prize.

Local lawyer Esmond Brown was this year’s marathon winner in a time of 2 hours 53 minutes and 02 seconds. A regular competitor on the Cayman scene, Brown is a past winner of the half marathon as well. Only 44 seconds behind Brown was the Brit Craig Derbyshire with Andrew Morrison (2:55:01) third. Fastest woman, finishing in a credible fourth place was Jalene Cruz (3:26:03). She has been a regular for years on the local circuit.

Barnabas Bako (3:26:57) was fifth overall with Nick Hemus (3:38:48) in sixth place. Seventh place finisher was Jairo Zitle (3:38:54) and then came in Kurt Bowers (3:40:26) followed by Mario Bush (3:41:46). Rounding up the first ten marathon finishers was Canada’s Matthew Timmins (3:41:44).

Second woman to finish was Abigail Alston, who came in 13th overall. Charlotte Cloete was third female home, finishing 16th.

The half marathon was keenly contested too with Morgan McDonald winning in 1:08:27, only 11 seconds ahead of Maximilian Uttley (1:20:24). Kian Lewis-Derbyshire (1:23:21) was third. Jennifer Hoang was the fastest female, finishing 11th overall.

In the four-person marathon relay T Joe Holder’s Team (2:55:05) were the fastest, with Team MuscleWiki (3:03:01) finishing second and Team Walkers Running (3:05:33) third.
