Primary School Cricket set for playoffs

Following the rounds 8 and 9 of regular season play, this week brings the ultimate test of skill, teamwork and spirit as eight primary schools step on to the pitch for the semi-finals and the finals in the 2026 Inter Primary Cricket Competition. The boundaries will be big, the bowling will be fast and the excitement will be unmatched.

Zone A Girls:

The young ladies from First Baptist Christian School and Island Primary A move on to the semi-finals as they finished first and second respectively in Zone A. First Baptist CS ended the regular season with a 67 run to 63 run victory over Joanna Clarke Primary on Tuesday, June 9 and a 73 run to 67 run win over Edna Moyle Primary on Friday, June 12. Island Primary A defeated Island Primary 84 runs to 64 runs on Tuesday and due to a forfeit over Theoline L. McCoy Primary, gained the full three points on Friday.

Zone B Girls:

St. Ignatius Catholic and Sir John A. Cumber Primary will represent Zone B in the semi-finals after finishing first and second respectively. St. Ignatius Catholic ended the regular season with a 44 run to 43 run victory over Marie Martin Primary on Friday, June 12. Sir John A. Cumber Primary finished the regular season the week before, finishing level on points with Cayman Prep A but advanced to the semi- finals as second place finishers with a better net run calculation.

Zone A Boys: East End Primary, Prospect Primary and Island Primary A all ended the season with victories and with identical records, winning seven and losing the single game. East End Primary and Prospect Primary advance to the semi-finals with a better net run calculation.

Zone B Boys:

Cayman Prep A capped off a brilliant undefeated season and topped Zone B with a 90 run to 74 run  victory over Cayman International School. St. Ignatius Catholic downed Marie Martin Primary 80 runs to 27 runs to finish level on points with Sir john A. Cumber Primary, who were not scheduled to play on the final day of competition. Due to a better net run calculation, St. Ignatius Catholic advance to the semi- finals.

The schedule for the semi-finals and finals is as follows:

Tuesday, June 16: Boys Semi-finals: Game 1: East End Primary (Winners Zone A) vs. St. Ignatius Catholic (Runner-Up Zone B) Game 2: Cayman Prep A (Winner Zone B) vs. Prospect Primary (Runner-Up Zone A) 9:30 a.m. at the Annex Field

Girls Semi-finals: Game 1: First Baptist CS (Winner Zone A) vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary (Runner-Up Zone B) Game 2: St. Ignatius Catholic (Winner Zone B) vs. Island Primary A (Runner-Up Zone A) 11:00 a.m. at the Annex Field

Wednesday, June 16: Girls Third Place: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 9:00 a.m. at the Smith Road Oval

Girls Final: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 10:00 a.m. at the Smith Road Oval

Boys Third Place: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Road Oval

Boys Final: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 12:30 p.m. at the Smith Road Oval

The inaugural All Star Games for girls (9:30 a.m.) and boys (11:00 a.m.) will take place on Thursday, June 18 at the Smith Road Oval.

The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Cricket Association and sponsored in part by Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC).

Parents and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on our young cricketers.
