All to play for in the Primary School Cricket Competition

Footsteps School (batting) defeated St. Ignatius Catholic.

With two rounds remaining in the regular season of the 2026 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition, the action was intense as Round 7 games concluded this past Friday, June 5.

Zone A Girls:

The young ladies from First Baptist CS moved to the top of the zone following a rare draw with Prospect Primary as each school posted 73 runs. Second placed Island Primary A and third placed Edna Moyle Primary kept the pressure on the leaders as Island Primary A defeated Red Bay Primary 47 runs to 46 runs and third placed Edna Moyle Primary got the better of Joanna Clarke Primary 56 runs to 54 runs. In the other game in Zone A, East End Primary defeated Island Primary B 89 runs to 54 runs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Girls:

Leaders St. Ignatius Catholic got past Footsteps School 76 runs to 71 runs and second placed Sir John A. Cumber Primary kept the pressure on the St. Ignatius ladies with a 70 run to 31 run win over Marie Martin Primary. Third placed Cayman Prep A was not scheduled to play and in the remaining Zone B game, Cayman International School got past Cayman Prep B 76 runs to 56 runs.

Zone A Boys:

With two games remaining and if results go their way, five schools - Island Primary A, East End Primary, Prospect Primary, Edna Moyle Primary and Red Bay Primary – all have a chance of finishing in the top two and a spot in the semi-finals. In Friday’s action, Edna Moyle Primary beat Joanna Clarke Primary 79 runs to 78 runs, East End Primary downed Island Primary B 95 runs to 55 runs, Island Primary A got past Red Bay Primary 68 runs to 65 runs and Prospect Primary defeated First Baptist CS 95 runs to 67 runs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Boys:

With one game remaining and not scheduled to play this past Friday, Cayman Prep A has already secured a spot in the semi-finals. Three other schools – Sir John A. Cumber Primary, Marie Martin Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic - all have a chance to secure that all-important second spot. Sir John A. Cumber dented Marie Martin Primary’s chances of finishing second with a 51 run to 50 run victory and St. Ignatius Catholic were their own worst enemies as they went down to Footsteps School 52 runs to 50 runs.

The final two rounds of play (rounds 8 and 9) continue on Tuesday, June 9 and Friday, June 12 with a full schedule of games including:

Tuesday, June 9:

Zone A Girls and Boys: Theoline L. McCoy versus East End Primary (at Theoline L. McCoy Primary), First Baptist CS vs. Joanna Clarke Primary (at First Baptist), Island Primary A vs. Island Primary B (at the Smith Road Oval) and Red Bay Primary vs. Prospect Primary (at Red Bay Primary). Edna Moyle Primary is not scheduled to play.

No games are scheduled for Zone B on Tuesday, June 9.

Friday, June 12:

Zone A Girls and Boys: Edna Moyle Primary vs. First Baptist CS (at Edna Moyle Primary), Island Primary A vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary (at the Smith Road Oval), Joanna Clarke Primary vs. Red Bay Primary (at Joanna Clarke Primary) and Prospect Primary vs. Island Primary B (at Prospect Primary). East End Primary is not scheduled to play.

Zone B Girls and Boys: Footsteps School vs. Cayman Prep B (at the Annex Field), Cayman Prep A vs. Cayman International School (at Cayman Prep) and Marie Martin Primary vs. St. Ignatius Catholic (at the Annex Field). Sir John A. Cumber Primary is not scheduled to play.

Following these final two rounds of play, the competition moves into the playoff phase with the top two schools in each zone qualifying for the boys’ and girls’ semi-finals on Tuesday, June 16 at the Annex Field. The winners will move on to the finals, which are scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at the Smith Road Oval.

The inaugural All Star Games for boys and girls will take place on Thursday, June 18 at the Smith Road Oval.

The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Cricket Association and sponsored in part by Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC).
