Tropical Storm Ian has developed in the Caribbean Sea and may become a serious hurricane threat for the northwestern Caribbean and Southeast U.S. next week, including Florida.
Further to the issuance of a Hurricane Alert by the Cayman Islands Government and forecast for inclement weather set to affect the Islands beginning on Sunday, 25 September, through Monday, 26 September, the following hurricane shelters have been activated:
The Cayman Islands remains under Hurricane Watch, as Tropical Storm Ian continues to move through the Caribbean Sea.
The public is being advised that as of 1pm 24 September, Grand Cayman is under a Hurricane Warning.
Water Authority - Cayman would like to urge all customers to complete all necessary hurricane preparations and
seek shelter as soon as possible.
Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) has cancelled all flights for Monday September 26, 2022 due to the current path of Tropical Storm Ian and the closure of airports in the Cayman Islands from 4pm Sunday September 25.

Grand Cayman remains under a Hurricane Warning, while Cayman Brac and Little Cayman remain under a Tropical Storm Watch. With Tropical Storm Ian closer to Grand Cayman, tropical storm conditions are forecasted throughout Sunday night into Monday.
